CPOC Manifesto: Unlocking NHS Productivity in Wales

WelshManifesto

Today the Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) has published its manifesto for the 2026 Senedd election. It highlights how avoidable issues along the surgical pathway are exacerbating NHS waiting lists and undermining productivity in Wales. To address this, we are calling on political parties to expand efforts to mandate and facilitate the adoption of interventions designed to optimise the care patients receive before and after surgery.

Key messages

  • The Manifesto sets out how the upcoming Senedd election in 2026 is a critical opportunity to improve productivity across the NHS Wales.
  • It emphasises that boosting productivity isn’t just about funding, it requires tackling inefficiencies, optimising care pathways, reducing waiting times and improving workforce development.
  • The Manifesto makes the case that better use of allied health professionals, more effective preoperative and postoperative planning and investment into digital systems and workforce development are key.
